Cellulite treatments are plentiful, but do they really work? One new treatment seems to be more promising than others. Cellulite isn’t harmful. Many people, though, would like to get rid of it because of the way it looks. Cellulite is not related to the condition known as cellulitis, which is a spreading bacterial infection or inflammation of the skin and tissues beneath the skin. Many people seek treatment for cellulite because they are bothered by how it looks. Genetics is only one small part of the cellulite puzzle; factors like diet, exercise, and maintaining a healthy weight also play a role.

There are several therapies that have been suggested to remove cellulite, but none have been supported in the scientific or medical literature. Losing pounds and strengthening muscles in your legs, thighs, buttocks and abdomen can improve the appearance of the dimpled skin. Young females will clearly have the ‘pinch’ or ‘compression’ cellulite, as this is due to a structural mechanism. Although there’s no permanent “cure” for cellulite, using an effective cellulite cream can be an important weapon in your fight against cellulite. In addition, an increased deposition of subcutaneous body fat may often reflect a lifestyle of less exercise and changes in dietary consumption.

Intense cardio workouts such as running, cycling, hiking up hills, or taking cardio classes are your greatest weapon. Buckwheat is a slow-burning, easily digestible whole grain that, in addition to being a complete protein, is also rich in B vitamins and fiber. Cellulite shows fluid retention in the connective tissue fibres of the upper layers of the skin. This fluid can cause the thighs, hips and abdomen to swell. In my practice, Cellfina has become the gold standard for treatment of cellulite on the thighs and buttocks. Some of us want to believe it was, but if we are honest with ourselves we have to admit that cellulite is increasing in our society at an alarming rate —even faster than our waistlines.

Most of us live stressful lives as we try to balance our work and personal lives. In stressful situations the inflammatory stress hormone cortisol is released and research has proven that people with elevated cortisol levels are more likely to have cellulite. Few people realize that unsightly patches of cellulite are not improved by either physical exercise or even the strictest weight-control diets. I’ve tried all types of creams for cellulite and nothing ever worked. I was hesitant to spend $60 on another product but I was at a spa and they highly recommended this product. Machines to treat cellulite include vacuum rolling and radio waves to break up the fat. The first one of them on the market was Endermologie. If you absolutely won’t rest until you’ve done everything you can to get rid of your lumps, you might consider laser-assisted liposuction.

I’d like to tell you that getting rid of cellulite is a quick remedy away but that’s not quite accurate. One theory is that the decline of gelatin containing foods in our diets has led to an increase in cellulite as we don’t have the needed building blocks for healthy connective tissue. Water keeps the skin hydrated and flushes out toxins, and is key if you want to keep your skin looking fresh and youthful, too. Cigarette smoke has been shown to reduce blood vessel flow and to weaken and disrupt the formation of collagen, allowing for the connective tissue to become stretched and damaged more easily and for underlying fat to show through. Pineapple contains the enzyme bromelain, an anti-inflammatory that also helps to reduce cellulite by boosting fat cell metabolism. Enjoy half a cup of cubed pineapple as part of your breakfast, for a refreshing mid-day snack, or for dessert.

Other possibilities are techniques that cut the fibrous walls enclosing the fat, allowing the fat to smooth out and appear less bumpy. “This wrap it is all about lifestyle change,” said owner Aubra Alexander. “It’s a toxin removal process.” Cellulite treatment offered at salons includes, a list of body wraps, ultrasound and electrotherapy. While there is no known cure to completely banish cellulite, there are ways to help minimize its appearance, so you can don your bathing suit and head to the beach with confidence. So get stronger. Find a program and stick with it, whether that’s powerlifting or Olympic lifting or CrossFit or you and your buddies in your garage with dumbbells or whatever.
